Hi, my name is Capulet and I am the founder of the Passion for PAWS Foundation.

I started this foundation because of my passion for dogs and their health. Over the past few years, I began to take an active role in learning more information about canine health. It all started with my beloved Zorro. Towards the last few years of his life, his health began to decline.

I wanted to be a pro-active pet owner. I began to research information and talk to professionals in the animal health field. That is when I noticed that canine health research is not as advanced and developed compared to human health.

We need to continue to improve canine health studies and research. Our pets deserve the best health care. They are our best friends and we want them happy and healthy.

That is why the Passion for PAWS Foundation is committed to raising canine health awareness to pet owners.

To support our cause, we will hold an annual dog walk to raise money for canine health once a year. The event will be held on the first Saturday in May. The annual dog walk will take place in any town, city or neighborhood that is interested in participating.

Pet owners can either walk their dog(s) for 30 minutes or participate by bringing their dog(s) to a local dog park and have them play for 30 minutes

The fundraiser will help raise money for canine health research. The research will be conducted with the highest scientific methods and standards. It will focus on all health related issues, including diseases and illnesses.

What we need from you is your financial support to get the program started.

We have created a blog site called passionforpawss.blogspot.com. This is a place for pet owners to learn more information about canine health awareness.

In addition to the website, we have created a smart phone application where users can research health information, compare dog food products, view nutrition facts and recipe ideas. The application will also have an option to link their account to their vet’s pet profile. This will enable users to view their pet’s medical history anytime and anywhere. This application will be available to connect through social networks, such as Twitter and Facebook. Passion for PAWS can also be found on Facebook, Google +, and Twitter. The Passion for PAWS Foundation is currently being promoted through social media and we hope to expand our brand.

Here is where you can help. We need assistance with promotional items. We would like to sell promotional items such as clothing apparel for pet owners and canines. This would include T-shirts, hats, dog collars, leashes and canine t-shirts. Charging money for the apparel will help assist with an alternative way for donation support, while promoting the cause.

In addition to the apparel, we would also like to generate free informational promotional items. We would like to print brochures, posters and newsletters to leave in veterinarian offices and pet stores. The printed material will inform pet owners about canine health awareness and more information about the Passion for PAWS Foundation.

Scrap The Table Scraps

It is tempting to want to reward your best friend with human food, but this decision could harm your loved one. If you want to improve your dog’s health, avoid feeding table scraps.

Some human foods are acceptable for dogs to eat; and there are human foods that could poison your dog. It is important to learn the safe foods from the danger foods.

The most common danger foods that people are aware of are chocolate, caffeine, alcohol, small bones and coffee. It does not stop here! The danger food list continues to grow with items you may have thought to be healthy. It includes; seasonings, onions, garlic, chives, macadamia nuts, grapes, raisins, avocados, yeast dough, xylitol and mushrooms.

The danger foods can cause different reactions and illnesses in dogs. Most reactions include stomach issues, kidney failure, blockages and even death. So, when you are about to put your dinner plate on the floor for Fido [STOP] and remember the consequences. Your dog’s health is more important than your guilt trip.

If you want to make your dog's tail wag, there are healthier ways to make them happy. The safe foods are acceptable to add to your pet's food or to use as treats. Sweet potatoes, green beans, celery, carrots, apples, oatmeal, pumpkin, salmon, corn and lettuce are great substitutes to add to their dinner bowl. Providing your dog with nutritious treats will not only make you feel like a proud pet owner, but your dog will be thanking you with wet kisses and tail wags.

The Great Dog Food Debate

Yes, I am guilty.

I used to feed my dogs the worst dog food brands that were available in any supermarket. Why did I make this poor decision? Simply, because I was unaware and on a budget.

I first started to learn more about dog nutrition when my dog, Zorro became diagnosed with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). GERD is when the gastric fluids flow through the esophagus in a reverse direction. It is similar to the human condition of Acid Reflux. This condition can result in discomfort or pain.

The veterinarian suggested that we change Zorro’s diet to a low residue diet. The new food consisted of organic ingredients containing chicken, fish, eggs, minerals, vitamins and artificial flavors. The food was easily metabolized during digestion and allowed for nutrients to be absorbed quickly.

It wasn't only Zorro that was ill. Close friends were also experiencing their pet’s health declining. Pet owners flocked to the internet to learn more information about our dog’s health. Different illnesses, conditions and beliefs started to whirl around the pet community.

What is making our pets sick? An overwhelming agreement concluded that the dog food was to blame for our sick pets.

As pet owners, we can only strive to feed our pets better.

When debating dog food brands there are two main components that pet owners should abide by. First, dogs need food that contains high protein, high moisture and low starch foods. Second, the food needs to be a balanced diet. Balanced diet means the food has been tested. The test guarantees to meet our pet’s needs with minerals, vitamins and nutrients for all life stages.

Passion for PAWS is the most vital smart phone application for conscientious dog owners. I have created this informative and fun application to help deliver canine health awareness to pet owners. This application will have direct access to my website, passionforpawss.blogspot.com  Users will be able to research health information, compare dog food products, view nutrition facts and recipe ideas. Users will also have an option to link their account to their vet’s pet profile. This will enable users to view their pet’s medical history anytime and anywhere. We have also added a donation link to the Morris Animal Foundation. This application will be available to connect through social networks, such as Twitter and Facebook. Our goal is to deliver canine health awareness to conscientious pet owners.

Capulet's Biosketch

You can call me Capulet. I adore the simple things in life.

I enjoy wet kisses on my face when I come home from work. I love a big paw on my right shoulder when we go for a drive. On chilly nights, he keeps me warm with his furry back against my back. He constantly makes me laugh when he plops his 80lb body on my lap. Oh, and to see his giant Kool-Aid smile.

His name is Gizmo. He is my eight-month year old puppy. He is a mix of Pyrenees and Bernese mountain dog. He will grow to weigh between 120 -140lbs. I adopted him and his brother seven months after my Zorro passed away. I was broken hearted. I always knew I had extra love in my heart to give to dogs in need. I made the decision and I now have two puppies. Gizmo lives with me and Chewbacca lives with my parents.

 

Animals always surrounded me when I was growing up. I had two cats, three dogs, countless fish and one chicken. My Grandparents owned dogs and horses. They even owned twelve dogs at once. I used to live next to a horse farm. From my backyard, I observed the horses. I eventually started to take equestrian lessons at the farm. Animals have always been a part of my life. But, my true passion is raising puppies.

The past few years have been a challenging time for me. Zorro was not a well dog. Health concerns started to take the inevitable turn. I am not a vet and I do not have experience in the medical field. I wanted to learn more information. I asked questions and researched the Internet to learn more information about dog health. Knowledge is power.

This leads us to the reason for my Passion for PAWS website. I want to inform pet owners about “puppy health awareness.” With new advanced technology, veterinarians and pet owners are learning more information about health concerns. This can be a stressful and depressing time for pet owners. I plan to deliver a fresh perspective through a light-hearted voice.

Social Interactions and etiquette has come to a dead end. I have decided to kill my little darlings.

With death, comes life.

I have given birth to my new voice.

I will be writing about one of my passions, puppies. I have grown up around puppies throughout my life. I want to deliver “puppy health awareness” to the online community. With new advanced technology, veterinarians and pet owners are learning more information about health concerns. This can be a stressful and depressing time for pet owners. I can only hope to bring a fresh perspective to the audience through a light hearted voice. My blog will be titled, Passion for PAWS.

To advance my online voice, I plan to make a few changes. I will post at least once a week to my blog, generating more content and information to my website. I will not only tweet new post links, but I will also tweet additional information about “puppy health awareness.” In addition, I will use hash tags in my tweets to attract Twitter followers. My Twitter name will stay the same. My name, Capulet, can only illuminate the passion that I have for puppies.

How will I stand out from the rest of the crowd? I will bring personal experience and knowledge about “puppy health” to my writing. My writing style will be easy to understand for the audience. This blog will be the place for people to visit when they don’t understand the veterinarian’s explanation. Science terminology can be confusing and exhausting to understand. I will deliver the information through a pet owner’s perspective, using examples from my experience.
